Hi There

We love to travel :) However, we find that our preferences and interests aren't always represented on many blog sites. Travel experiences and budgets vary - whether traveling alone, as parents, as retirees,etc... We hope this account of our adventures (at a few budget levels) can give you some ideas and shape some expectations for your next trip!Don't let money stop you from traveling. The notion that we cannot afford to travel is an insult to the tenacity of the human spirit. In other words, you can make anything happen!

Harrod's - The Other Happiest Place on Earth...

Harrod's is a shopper’s dream. At one city block in size, it is the most insane luxury store in the UK. It is beautiful and wonderfully overwhelming. Harrod’s can bring the most experienced or reserved shopper to a frenzied state.

It is pristine. Each room within each department is beautifully decorated, showcasing gorgeous items. Each room has a more perfect insta- or snap worthy photo opportunity than the next. If you can’t buy that beautiful item you’re eyeing, you can at least take a beautiful picture with/near it and share with the world. Am I right?

Even the bathrooms are classy. There is complimentary perfume (in the ladies’ room) for you to spritz yourself with prior to departing. Classy.

The Egyptian escalator is a showstopper. Pharaoh head sculptures intermingle with high end designer goods. Hieroglyphics line the walls. Note that strollers are not allowed on these escalators. There is a flexible pole in the middle of the entrance to each escalator. My fellow chunky sisters, worry not. We all have to wiggle around it.

There are so many items within this 1 city block store, it is an one stop shop in almost every way. Fashion, fur friends, food, technology, textiles, tea – you really don’t have to leave.

Tip: grab one or two store maps. It is super helpful when you need to find the important places (ATMs, restrooms, escalators and elevators, exits) and it makes for cute memorabilia.

[if !supportLists]· [endif]You can buy the latest in bags, shoes, and clothes. Brands are clearly marked as you meander from floor to floor. Oh, shoe lovers - there is a section called "shoe heaven." It absolutely is just that.

Note: My fellow sisters with big feet (above a 12 US) – selection is mad limited. You may find sneakers. For those of you that are adventurous, check out the fabulous options in the men’s section.

[if !supportLists]· [endif]You can go to the pet shop and swoon over the animals up for purchase or buy your fur baby something nice.

[if !supportLists]· [endif]You can buy all the makeup from (basically) any luxe brand you can imagine.

[if !supportLists]· [endif]Stationary? Yep.

[if !supportLists]· [endif]Books? Definitely. Bookworms and casual readers will love the selection. I saw a wide variety available – from limited edition fashion collection capsule lookbooks to pocket-sized literary classics.

[if !supportLists]· [endif]Household decor items, linens and bedding? Yes.

[if !supportLists]· [endif]Queen Elizabeth/Buckingham palace official trinkets? Absolutely.

[if !supportLists]· [endif]Toy store? For sure.

Tip: the photo opps in this here toy store area are priceless. Even if you have no intention of buying that plush bunny rabbit or a little Paddington, visit.

[if !supportLists]· [endif]The latest in smartphones and gadgets? Of course.

[if !supportLists]· [endif]How about a Harrod's signature gift? Oh, there's a whole floor.

Tip: Harrod’s is a respected brand that works with other respected brands. They produce their own line of several items (from soaps to golf balls to chocolate to handbags). These items make great gifts and keepsakes. It doesn’t hurt that these are pretty affordable!

Note: Harrod’s has a sales section on their signature branded items. Look around before you checkout! The deals are so good. Few items are above 20 GBP. I got a few signature shopping bags (think Ted Baker vinyl) for 8GBP each. In July, they have a Harrod's Sale. Its magical.

[if !supportLists]· [endif]Running out of cash? They've got ATMs and currency exchange areas.

Tip: the ATM advertises that it does not charge ATM fees for withdrawals. Still check your bank account!

[if !supportLists]· [endif]Hungry? There are options – from sushi and sandwiches to classy (read: expensive) meals and high tea.

Note: If you chose the café near the toy store, “selection of croissants” at this cafe means 1 croissant. Imagine my damn surprise LOL The below snack and drinks costs about 45 GBP.

Warning: you can spend hours in Harrod’s and not notice it. It is like being stuck in a time warp. There aren’t many windows. It is like a casino, in that sense. Do enjoy the shopping, but know that you may look down at your watch and notice a few hours have effortlessly disappeared.

Overall: I love Harrod’s. Whenever I visit London, I make time to go and support the British economy. I hope you do, too! Its our duty as global citizens, right?
