Hi There

We love to travel :) However, we find that our preferences and interests aren't always represented on many blog sites. Travel experiences and budgets vary - whether traveling alone, as parents, as retirees,etc... We hope this account of our adventures (at a few budget levels) can give you some ideas and shape some expectations for your next trip!Don't let money stop you from traveling. The notion that we cannot afford to travel is an insult to the tenacity of the human spirit. In other words, you can make anything happen!

Do you like BBQ? Run to Salt Lick!

There are few things I require when traveling to Austin, Texas. Eating at Salt Lick BBQ when in or near Austin is one of them. Hands down, some of the best BBQ in Texas. That is saying something.

Salt Lick is near Round Rock – about 20 minutes from Austin. It is worth the drive, people. Salt Lick has an outdoor sitting area. Bands play live music. Kids run around.

Once you enter the restaurant, you will see a huge BBQ pit to your right. The aroma of BBQ playfully slaps you in the face.

It is a nice restaurant but no frills and Texas AF. The main dining area consists of long benches and tables. Family style.

Now, the reason we’re all here. The food. You can order several amazing meal options. Salt Lick also serves an all-you-can-eat BBQ option (called Family Style). We get this every time. Y'all, you’ll likely eat two servings but just do it. There a several types of meat and classic sides. Think brisket, sausage, ribs, bread, coleslaw, potato salad, beans, pickles and onions. All of this for $25 per adult. Kids 3 and under eat this for FREE.

The potatoes are a chunky mashed consistency. The coleslaw does not seem to contain any mayo. It's more of a coleslaw that is lightly tossed in vinegar and seasoning. The beans are legit BBQ beans. The bread is just a tad dense and delicious. There are two BBQ sauces on the table - regular and spicy.

Do not sleep on their desserts. The desserts are so good and are $6 each. You could share it. It’s Texas sized. The peach cobbler and the pecan pie are my recommendations. Just take it to go. Oh, add that scoop of ice cream or pick up a pint of Blue Bell Ice Cream as you roll back to your bed. You’ll need a nap.
